| Strut-A-Mutt Fun Walk / Run |
|
provider writes, "On Saturday, April 16, Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary & Hospital will host their third annual Strut-A-Mutt Fun Walk/Run at Abacoa Town Center in Jupiter. The walk/run will be hosted in honor of "Patches," a severely malnourished and critically abused pit bull, used as part of an illegal gambling ring."
|
Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. Walkers/runners and their leashed pets will proceed through designated sites around The Abacoa Town Center. Registration is $35 and includes a free breakfast and a t-shirt. Walkers/runners are encouraged to go out and seek additional pledges for their participation.
On Feb. 24, a female driver saw an approximate 1-year old pit bull trying to crawl out of a ditch on Pratt Whitney Road. The dog, now known as Patches, was taken to Safe Harbor and is being treated for malnutrition, a dislocated jaw, and 50 puncture wounds to its face and ears. In addition, the pads of Patches two front feet were chewed off. Used as a "bait" dog, prosthetics will be needed to be built for Patches.
Donors have called Safe Harbor and pledged their financial support after watching and reading about Patches on their local news. Pamela Whitmore and her daughter, Lileh of Boynton Beach raised $350 and AmComp employees in North Palm Beach raised $900.
"We are so grateful to these wonderful, caring people who have committed to helping Patches," said Safe Harbors Executive Director Kay-Lynette Roca. "But how many more Patches are out there suffering in ditches, tied to trees, sitting in cages, that we don't even know about? Patches is our beacon in shedding light on animal abuse and pit bull rings and how they have to stop. I encourage everyone to come out and walk for Patches."
