Prepare ahead for safety and comfort of your pet
writes, "

The following information is provided in part by FEMA, HSUS and other sources to help you plan for your pets in the event of a hurricane. The following materials listed in the Pet Survival Kit are those which at a minimum need to be assembled for the care of your pet whether you evacuate or remain at home to weather the storm.

If You Must Evacuate, Please Do Not Leave Your Pets Behind! Pets cannot survive on their own, and you may not be able to find them when you return to your home. Currently, emergency shelters in Palm Beach County will not accept pets. Call ahead to motels and hotels in safe areas to find out if they will allow you to bring your pets. Work with the hotel manager to get "no pets" policies temporarily lifted."

Disaster Plan

Decide where to go if at home, school, work, outdoors, or in a car when a flood, severe thunderstorm, or tornado warning is issued.

  • Update these plans every school year and as places of employment and residence change.
"

How to Prepare for a Hurricane

Hurricane hazards come in many forms: storm surge, high winds, tornadoes, and flooding. This means it is important for your family to have a plan that includes all of these hazards. Look carefully at the safety actions associated with each type of hurricane hazard and prepare your family disaster plan accordingly. But remember this is only a guide. The first and most important thing anyone should do when facing a hurricane threat is to use common sense.
